Background

Objective

The UNDP Moldova offers for outstanding graduate-level students the opportunity to acquire working experience with UNDP. The internship programme provides a knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles and activities. It should complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in studies of work experience in the area of Gender and gender mainstreaming, and gender in development area.

Scope of work

Main responsibilities:

Support to the Gender Focal Team of UNDP Moldova to:

  • Facilitate or coordinate the development and/or implementation of a gender mainstreaming strategy for the country office.
  • Advocate for the inclusion of gender issues in programme/project formulation by researching gender issues relevant to programme/project, ensuring gender is part of project identification, formulation and appraisal.
  • Support the inclusion of gender issues in all programme/project implementation activities and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Introduce relevant gender dimensions at country office meetings with partners, inter-agency and NGO meetings.
  • Identify the needs of colleagues for information and training in gender mainstreaming and obtain relevant documents and training materials.
  • Organize capacity building/ training for the country office on gender concepts, gender analysis, and planning.
  • Establish a monitoring mechanism to measure the implementation of GM action plans.
  • Serve as a repository for gender information and act as a liaison to the regional and global gender advisors and the Gender Unit in BDP.
  • Raise or encourage staff to raise gender equality issues in the workplace.
  • Liaise with women’s machineries and external gender specialist at the country level.
  • Participate in and contribute to the work of inter-agency, donor, NGO and academic networks on gender equality.
  • Represent UNDP gender priorities and activities in public arena, including local media.
  • Network with other gender interests in the region.
  • Share the experience and engage in common/joint activities with other UN agencies for better utilization of synergies and increase the impact of Gender activities within UNCT
  • Participate in UNDP’s gender community and on the Gender Network.

Prepare a short annual report of activities for the Resident Representative, to indicate achievements, challenges and areas of support needed.

Requirements for experience

Interns are selected on a competitive basis. it is required to have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution.

Education : University degree in Social sciences.

Experience: Studies of work experience in the area of Gender and gender mainstreaming, gender in development area.

Language Requirements: written and spoken proficiency in English, knowledge of Romanian or Russian is an asset.

Financial issues
UNDP Moldova does not provide financial support to interns. The costs associated with the internship must be borne by any sponsoring institutions or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and will have to make his/her own arrangements for accommodation, travel, etc.

Health and Medical Insurance
UNDP accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship.
Applicants for internship must therefore carry adequate and regular medical and life insurance.
Proof of medical coverage/visa must be provided before the internship starts.

Documents to be included

Application process

Applicants should send the following documents before their arrival to Moldova:

  • completed UNDP Internship application form;
  • copy of the CV;
  • letter from his University confirming current enrollment and graduation date;
  • a copy of his/her school transcript;
  • a letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member who has directly supervised the student in the recent past and who is fully acquainted with the student's performance;
  • a motivation letter setting out the reasons why he/she is seeking an internship with UNDP and what is expected from the experience.

Before starting the Internship, interns should submit:

  • signed UNDP “Internship Agreement” form;
  • confirmed and signed copy of “Medical Certificate of good health” from a recognized physician;
  • proof of medical insurance valid for Moldova;
  • proof of life/accident insurance valid for Moldova.
